How to flash img to ROM?

Both command line tools (included in Debian Stretch v1.0.1 zip) on linux and Windows GUI tool failed. Also, I checked Debian Stretch v1.0.1 (and v1.0.4) img can be flashed in both ways.

Are there instructions for writing this new Tinker_Edge_R-Debian-Buster-v2.0.5-20220217.img file to the Tinker Board Edge R?

It doesn't seem to work in the same way as the older images with the Windows GUI or the CLI tools.  Both tools seems to reject the image file as a valid image to write to the Edge R.

From my examination of the older image files compared with this image file, it appears this image doesn't have the required bootloaders prepended to the image.

Nevermind.  I got it working.  I needed to follow the steps below:

  • install a previous version of Debian for the Tinker Board Edge R (ie. v1.0.4)
  • connect the Edge R to my PC via a USBC cable
  • reboot the Edge R into UMS mode
  • finally, use balenaEtcher to write the v2.0.5 image from my PC

I have installed v2.0.5 image to Tinker Edge R, but Wifi is not available and Bluetooth returns to Off after reboot.  A few questions:

1. Should WiFi work out-the-box after imaging?

2.Do I need to download driver separately for Wifi?

Here are some logs:

Hi MThompson,

I have tried to follow your suggestion.

first, i have installed succesfully Tinker Edge R Debian V1.0.1 into the board. then whilst the board is connected to laptop via a USBC cable, i executed the command ''sudo reboot ums'' in the linux terminal on the tinker edge r.

I can find the tinker edge r in the device manager but cannot find it in the balena etcher when selecting the target.

Do you have any suggestion?

thank you in advance

hello @BillyAma,

1. yes - if you have the wifi module iserted, you can use it staight away

2. no need as long as you're using one of the modules from the qvl

hello @marco@bigsis.tech

1. connect tinker edge r to the computer

2. shutdown tinker edge r

3. repower tinker edge r so it can be switched to ums mode

4. use tools such as balena etcher to flash
